The John Lennon Real Love Project is a free songwriting workshop for communities in need.

With the support of Yoko Ono, Theatre Within launched the John Lennon Real Love Project (JLRLP) at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx in the fall of 2014.  

Since 2015, Theatre Within has provided the JLRLP to children and adults impacted by cancer through the Red Door Community and other regional cancer support organizations. Inspired by John Lennon's love for the art of songwriting, participants write their own original songs to share and discuss with the group.

In the spring of 2021, Theatre Within launched the JLRLP for public elementary and middle schools. In this life-affirming program, students write original lyrics to “Real Love” and record a new version of the song accompanied by John Lennon’s original vocal and piano track.   To date, Theatre Within has provided 35 public schools programs.
