“The albums Tapestry (1971) and Ladies of the Canyon (1970) are classics of the legendary Laurel Canyon singer-songwriter era. While Carole and Joni lived in the same canyon, their creative processes were distinct. Carole was the ultimate collaborator, a hit-making powerhouse who co-wrote 9 of the 12 songs on Tapestry with lyricists Gerry Goffin and Toni Stern. Joni, by contrast, was a singular visionary who wrote, arranged and produced Ladies of the Canyon, from start to finish, solo. The results were Carole’s soulful, earthy masterpiece that defined the sound of the early 70s and Joni’s sublime musical portraits, capturing the poetic and bohemian spirit of the era.”
