The John Lennon Real Love Project

Launched in 2014 with the warm support of Yoko Ono, the John Lennon Real Love Project (JLRLP) is a visionary songwriting workshop and program for communities in need.

In the JLRLP songwriting workshop, participants write (and sometimes record) their own songs. In the JLRLP songwriting program, participants write new lyrics to “Real Love” and record a new version of the song accompanied by John Lennon’s original vocal and piano track.

Since 2015, Theatre Within has provided the JLRLP songwriting workshop for children, teens and adults impacted by cancer through the Red Door Community and other regional cancer support communities.

Since 2021, Theatre Within has provided the John Lennon Real Love Project songwriting program for elementary and middle schools.  For the school application, click here.

In 2022, in the JLRLP's most recent expansion, Theatre Within brought the workshop to Covenant House, NY, a non-profit providing residential services to vulnerable, homeless, runaway and exploited youth.
